Make Current and Correct Contact Data Part of Your Firm’s Strategy for Holiday Card Success

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but for many law firm marketers it can also be the most frustrating. Our law firm holiday card series provides marketers with tips, tricks, and best practices for a successful holiday card season. If you missed our earlier posts, catch up now. In our final post of this series, we’re looking at an essential component of your firm’s holiday card success: your firm’s contact data.

Whether you send an ecard, a traditional paper card, or some combination thereof, bad data can prevent your contacts from receiving it. If your contacts aren’t receiving your holiday greetings, they are probably missing out on other important information from your firm. Taking time to review your data on a regular basis will not only ensure a successful holiday card season, but that your firm’s communications reach the right people throughout the entire year.

Is Your Contact Data Current?

Outdated data is one of the most common forms of bad data in CRM and marketing databases. According to Neil Patel:

  • 40% of email users change their email address at least once every two years
  • 20% of all postal addresses change every year
  • 25-33% of email addresses become outdated every year
  • 60% of people change job titles within their organizations each year

Audit Your Database to Understand Your Data

Audit your database to identify the current state of your data. Identify outdated data as well as data that is incorrect, poorly formatted, or missing. Here are a few simple searches to get you started:

  • Run a search for contact records where the email address field is empty
  • Identify contact records where the first and last name fields are empty
  • Locate orphaned records (those that are not associated with any firm personnel)
  • Remove bounced email addresses from your mailing lists and update them where possible
