Shining Lights of Innovation – Katie Gregory of Isaac Wiles

In 2013, Isaac Brant and Wiles Boyle merged their historied firms to form Isaac Wiles. After 160 combined years of serving the people of Columbus, the two firms embarked on an exciting journey under a new name. However, after aligning their individual financial management systems, they learned their system was to be sunsetted.

This afforded a new opportunity for the growing firm to find a practice management system that was the right fit for their future. In June of 2019, Isaac Wiles began to leverage the SurePoint Legal Management System (LMS) to manage their attorneys, finances and provide the business intelligence their leadership needs to make the decisions critical to their success.

“Once we implemented LMS we immediately began leveraging paperless workflows, electronic billing, collaborative billing and the business intelligence dashboards. Workflow alone was an absolute game changer for us.”

“We were doing everything manually: paper forms, Microsoft Word docs, data entry. Our previous system didn’t even have a place for an upload of anything so… it was rough,” explained Katie Gregory, Finance Manager at Isaac Wiles. “Once we implemented LMS we immediately began leveraging paperless workflows, electronic billing, collaborative billing and the business intelligence dashboards. Workflow alone was an absolute game changer for us.”

Transitioning to LMS was a complete team effort by both the Isaac Wiles and SurePoint teams. Having recently undergone the merger, the firm had developed a culture of embracing change. “Everyone provided input on each topic and we had no issue with getting buy-in from the rest of the firm,” added Katie. “We have an amazing team that gets along great, so we just naturally fed off of each other. Not to mention, our old system was just so out of date that we were all excited for the upgrade to LMS. Our prior software just didn’t allow for a firm to grow and change.”

In addition to the advanced financial management tools, digital workflows and electronic billing, Katie shared how leadership at Isaac Wiles is embracing the Business Intelligence Dashboards. “Our Partners get to see their numbers daily at the drill down levels and no longer need to wait for my monthly reports to see how they’re doing.”

When the pandemic hit it rocked the legal industry. Firms around the world were forced to work remotely for the first time in their history and Isaac Wiles was no exception. However, due to their recent transition to LMS in the Cloud, they were prepared.

“We went remote for 3 months and we would have been dead in the water if we hadn’t converted to LMS the year prior,” said Katie, “I’ve always been happy we converted, but I’ve been incredibly grateful for it over the past few months.”

The entire transition to begin working remotely was completed in a matter of hours leaving almost no downtime for the firm. The move also expedited the electronic billing pilot they had already begun running earlier in the year. Being able to have their clients and vendors pay without the need for cutting/receiving paper checks meant cashflow could continue uninterrupted.

Isaac Wiles and the hundreds of other law firms across the United States that rely on the SurePoint Legal Management System are the future of the legal industry. Embracing advanced technology to better serve their clients and improve profitability throughout every aspect of their firm is the recipe for success.
